Yes now only option to switch internet off (unplug cable) or disable wifi and then launch steam app. It will go offline mode. Once that done, then reconnect internet. Whoever i see that i wan't add new game it getting steam error. Still possible pay single games but not sure online games.

Guys a fix i found: turn off ur wifi u and boot steam, wait until it boots into offline mode, and reconnect wifi

Same problem for me too. There is a thread about the issue on the Steam Support subredit and it appears this is a world wide issue, there are reports of people experiencing this bug from Australia to Canada. Hopefully we get a fix soon.

I had a bit of luck by going into the download settings and changing the server to another location. Then I spammed it and it seemed to work and I can play games

Steam store down, oddly enough, it caused launch issues with L4D2 where the game just flat-out wasn't launching (even in offline mode), only resolved by restarting PC completely. L4D2 launches now and it only appears to be the steam storefront that's down.

Yep, tried all sorts to fix it as well. Only thing that works is to change the download server to Paris but you won't get your full speeds, just miles better...

got this from reddit: I know it’s not the most ideal solution, but what you can do is fully close Steam and then go to this file: “C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\config\loginusers.vdf” and open it with notepad. You will see a database of all Steam users on your computer. Find your user, and change the value under “WantsOfflineMode” from 0 to 1. Should work until they bring the option back!

Showing symptoms of a possible DDoS attack, I reckon. Servers come back but intermittently. Also, it's Christmas Eve and in the middle of the Steam sale, perfect time to launch an attack.
