@ProfFlaneur I have WeChat on my phone and it works for most things. The slow internet was a killer though. Singularity has been achieved in China - you absolutely cannot live without a working smartphone phone.

@jairav @CarlZha Off WeChat you can do anything else. I was able to get WeChat and AliPay up no problem, for some reason DiDi just didn’t want to work, but I was able to call DiDi though the WeChat mini app, so ultimately no problem. Baidu for maps, Redbook for a little culture, you’re all set

@RnaudBertrand The issue with roaming is WeChat payment can often timeout (when you are redirected to the seller bank gateway) because roaming brings you back to your home network which is outside of the great firewall. This was my experience at least.
