I will try to remember to keep posting this solution because it is the only thing that does work. Microsoft issued an update to the extension host some time in May that breaks the application for many of it's users globally. With any luck this info will make it back to Microsoft and they will issue a retracted or corrected app.

Outlook has an issue with the extensions host that causes it to stop responding. Emails cannot be opened, read, attachments opened or read, and the app won't even close. The only way to fix this is to Alt-Ctrl-Delete and open the Outlook thread, highlight the Microsoft Outlook Extensions Host and end the task. Then it works as expected. This has been going on for at least a couple of weeks that I am aware of, and it has been reported by others but for some reason DownDetector doesn't report it as having a problem. Good luck!

Emails sent from my AOL account to Outlook users (some, not all) have been returning as UNDELIVERABLE since Friday, 5/15. I contacted both, AOL and OUTLOOK, but both companies claim it is the fault of the other. I kindly ask that both companies work towards a resulution to the problem. I rely on quick and accurate communication. Thank you.

I spoke a little too soon... if you click on Calendar it will reactivate the Outlook Extension task which re-introduces the problem. You have to go into Task Manager to end the task (Ctrl-Alt-Del). After that you can switch between the applications. However, when the reader pane is active on the right side of the screen it cannot be resized. But you can switch between right view and bottom view. Hope that helps.

I found the solution for Outlook not working... It is the CoPilot extension. In Outlook, go to Settings -> CoPilot and toggle it OFF. Then Outlook will work, although Help still does not activate but the rest of the basic functionality appears to work. Note that I was having the problem on my PC where outlook would not respond at all to anything, while I was still able forward emails on my phone, so I sent the ones I needed to GMAIL from my phone so I could continue to interact on important items. Less than ideal but it was a workaround. I hope this helps.

Outlook continues to lock up and not work at all. I have to use Control-Alt-Delete, Task Manager, go to Outlook and expand it, and End Task on the Extensions task then it will work. This appears to be related to the unwanted CoPilot extension that I never asked for and do not want. It gets in the way of the work I am doing and I would like to disable it or get rid of it entirely. Does anyone know how to do that?

Outlook has a problem... suddenly I can't search for anything. I was using my email when I tried to open an attached PDF and it just hung. I rebooted my system 4 times and still it won't display focused messages in the side panel and it won't even activate the search box (can't type in it) although other commands appear to be activated when cursor is on them. Totally hosed and unusable. And I really needed some email information for an appointment I am going to in a few minutes. It appears the AI feature is activated even though I don't want the add-in, but Help was not responding. Even the display looks weird now, without all of the normal menu features. And for some reason I click on Comment on DownDetector and it does nothing, even after having logged in. What's up today?

Yall text CNN about this. This is an international story and no one is covering it. Their text tip line is 772937. Start your text with CNN, then a space, then briefly tell them Outlook has been down over a week with no fixes or support. We need to be flooding them with this. They’re already claiming there is no issue while millions of us can proclaim that that is a lie. If there’s media pressure put on them then they might actually do something. This is not ok.

I know this has been posted before. I was only able to get in on phone by going to apps/ mail/ add account/ choose from list/select Exchange/ enter info. This happened a year ago on iMac and this week on phone. Selecting Exchange is not on MS fixes. After I did that I varied with my password. Password ONLY worked after I added the account as Exchange in phone app. When I selected Outlook from options I still got too many sign ins etc

May 1 2026 - "Outlook is syncronizing local changes made to items in this folder. You cannot remove this folder until the syncronization with the server is complete." It's unclear what started this. Possibly trying to delete a lot of files because Microsoft is force dumping all kinds of things from our phones into one drive storage quickly using up these online storage spaces somewhat against our will. Ideally we download our photos to a hard drive, not the cloud. This should be the norm. PUtting all our personal photos in the cloud is sheer stupidity.

I don’t know about work networks or androids I had to delete my account and add it as Exchange from the “choose from the list”. It’s been good ever since but selecting outlook instead of Exchange when I readded account did not work. MS is missing a step in their fix

OK on laptop but stuck in too many sign ins with iphone. I deleted the app and can't get back in bc too many sign in message even after one sign in attempt. Going to give it a week at least and then try my phone again. I'm glad my laptop email works and I have yahoo as a backup for my phone needs but this is unacceptable to take this long for a fix. Hello All…Microsoft Outlook also went down for me on Monday morning around 0400 ET. This was on my iPhone. I was able to login online later that morning (never could login using the iPhone Mail app). I found a Reddit post which said that in order to login using the Mail app on iPhones, you must select the Microsoft Exchange option. I did this yesterday afternoon and it worked like a charm. Hope this helps!
